Flights Resume at Scotland's Busiest Airport In the Wake of Major ATC System Failure

A systems problem at the airport's ATC meant no planes could enter or leave the facility.

Flight operations have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport following a significant technical issue at the control tower grounded all flights.

All aircraft movements were halted because of an systems problem that arose around 08:30.

A number of travelers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.

Flights Resume with Ongoing Delays

Officials announced at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

However, significant disruption are likely to affect schedules. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with many others subject to postponements.

An airport representative had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be impacted.

"Flyers are asked to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their specific flights," was the consistent advice.

Root of the Disruption

The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.

Passengers continue to be advised to confirm the details of their trip before departing to the airport as residual delays are managed.
